Most of the new LaserJets are ready to print the first page in eight seconds, he claimed, typically two to three times faster than competing models. Being able to return quickly to sleep can reduce overall power consumption by up to 50 percent. Other green features of HP's announcements include duplex printing as the default setting where supported by the hardware (the company says a Fortune 500 company would save around 700 tons of paper by using duplex printing, and paper manufacture consumes large quantities of water). Environmental responsibility is now high on the business agenda, said Horacio Miranda, enterprise business development manager at HP's imaging and printing group, with around 80 percent of enterprise requests for proposal evaluating environmental aspects, according to the company's internal research.
