Page 2 of 3 It’s amazing to think that YouTube Australia only launched in October 2007, but has already amassed a local community that “has grown to such an extent that, today, [YouTube] are inviting YouTube users in Australia to join [the] expanded YouTube Partner Programme.” YouTube says the new programme will “reward the most popular and prolific original content creators within the YouTube Australia community by allowing them to earn money from their videos”. The announcement continues that: “Users eligible for the partner programme have built a significant audience on YouTube (as measured by video views, subscribers, etc.) and consistently complied with the YouTube Terms of Use”. Of course the “Terms of Use” are important – and must be followed. Part of the rules include the fact content creators must create “original videos suitable for online streaming”, they must own “the copyrights and distribution rights for all audio and video content that [is uploaded] -- no exceptions”, and that new videos are “regularly uploaded” which attract “thousands of YouTube users”. Wannabe Partners can apply at YouTube’s partner page. YouTube notes that partners get to “decide which of their videos they would like to generate revenue on YouTube, and in turn, receive a portion of the revenue generated from ads that run next to those videos”. As you can imagine, YouTube is hoping to repeat overseas success with the Partner Programme and hope “this programme will inspire our users to continue to create compelling, engaging and viral content for the YouTube community.” So, what’s in it for marketers – something that will help YouTube further monetise all those eyeballs that visit the site so often? Please read onto page 3. |
