Lee explains that: “Acer is continually improving both the visual experience and the sound quality of its notebooks, which edge it closer to a 5.1 surround sound as opposed to other notebooks on the market which use only two integrated speakers. For users, this means that Acer is able bring them ever closer to the high definition home theatre experience they’ve come to expect.”

Other specs include Intel Core 2 Duo T8300 2.4Ghz, Intel PM965 Express Chipset, 802.11 a/g/b/draft-N network, Windows Vista Ultimate or Home Premium, up to 4GB of DDR2 667 RAM, 1 320GB hard drive - with space for a second 320GB drive for a maximum total of 640GB, a 6-in-1 memory card reader, the aforementioned 18.4-inch 1920x1080p screen, Dolby-almost-everything and 6 speakers with ‘true 5.1 channel surround sound output’.

There’s also two built-in stereo microphones featuring beam forming, echo cancellation, and noise suppression technologies, an Acer ‘Crystal Eye’ webcam, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, Gigabit Ethernet, a 56kbps modem, an ExpressCard 54 slot, 4 USB 2.0 ports, an HDMI port (with HDCP), infrared, VGA, RF-in, headphone/speaker/line-out with S/PDIF, microphone in, line in, fingerprint reader, media controls, a Kensington lock slot (among other things) and a 1 year warranty.

Although listed as ‘optional’ items in the specifications, both models come with, Acer’s VoIP phone, an Acer Media Center remote control, and a digital TV tuner – as standard items in the box.

There’s also a series of media controls called “CineDash media console”, situated on the left of the keyboard. It’s a touch sensitive control panel that lets users “easily navigate all media menus such as volume, music, and movies” – letting you control media from the console or the remote as you please.

The 8920G has an RRP of AUD $2699, available now from major retailers, and comes with the Blu-ray drive as standard, and has a 3D ‘holographic cover with starlit Acer logo’ to add a bit of extra sparkle and shine to the new Gemstone Blue models.

So, what’s in the Aspire 6920G, the 16-inch model with 3 speakers, and what else does Acer have to say? Please read onto page 3.
