File under ‘r’ for rumour for now, but it seems sources close to Microsoft are hinting at a desire to follow Apple’s lead by having retail stores pushing Microsoft branded stuff onto the public. Fudzilla is reporting that Microsoft are thinking it would be cool to have their own chain of retail outlets. Bringing the big M direct to the people, with skilled people giving advice and direction on all things Microsoft. Imagine for yourself how that would work. A predominantly sky-blue colour scheme, walls of Windows software, and the hardware section housing Zune MP3 players, peripherals and dominated by Xbox 360 gear. Perhaps coinciding with a Windows 7 release, a new generation of Microsoft labelled Ultra Mobile PC’s and the next Xbox it might have some merit, but this means a time frame of late 2009 at the earliest. Getting back to the people could be a PR shot in the arm for Microsoft. Or it could be a well of despair for more of Bills money. I for one will be interested to see if there is any meat to this rumour, local Microsoft representatives were unaware of any plans at this stage. |
