The catch is that the Blu-ray disc must have first been authored with the BD Touch feature set.  Meaning potential Blu-ray authors must utilise the DoStudio BD Authoring Edition Software Developers Kit (SDK) .

This SDK looks to be an easy to use kit that requires no scripting to use, whether commercial studios take up the kit for use in forthcoming BD versions of there movies will be interesting to watch.  The demos on the website show a Pirates of the Caribbean movie being used as an example, so perhaps there is some hope of the BD Touch code becoming the norm for at least some Hollywood releases.

On the iPhone and Touch side there is also a SDK available for managing the Blu-ray BD Touch data, giving budding programmers yet another toy to play with on their new Apple gadgets.
