BD Touch promises two way communication between Apple’s iPhone and iPod Touch and compatible Blu-ray players such as the Sony PlayStation 3.

Netblender have introduced BD Touch, a iPhone and iPod Touch application enabling the two-way communication of Blu-ray data.

So the iPhone and Touch are now portable Blu-ray players.

Other useful features listed on the Netblender website include:

* Pushing digital copies of movies to an iPhone from the Blu-ray disc menu.

* Automatically cataloguing a viewer’s Blu-ray disc collection and providing movie suggestions

* Updating and managing a viewer’s rental queue

* Displaying trivia and extra information about a movie in sync with the movie's playback

* Turning existing Blu-ray discs into games that use the iPhone as the game controller

* Viewing fan-created content in sync with the disc

The website also shows a couple of spiffy videos of an iPhone synching with the Blu-ray player, transferring information and all in a timely manner.

Compatible Blu-ray players that can utilise the BD Touch interface are listed here , essentially they are those that have the correct Blu-ray ‘profile’.  Specifically the player must have at least Profile 1.1, released in models post November 1st 2007.

The Sony PlayStation 3 is listed amongst the 'fully featured' players.

There is –of course – a small catch to all this Apple – Blu-ray shenanigans.  See page two for more
