Unlike existing media players, the “Adobe Media Player enables viewers to subscribe to free content, giving them control to watch their favourite shows both online and offline.”

Adobe notes that: “the player also offers next-generation offline monetization and branding options, including viewer-centric dynamic advertising for targeted marketing campaigns and the ability to customize the look and feel of the player to match the brand or theme of the video content”.

Content publishers can receive anonymous measurement of content usage data, such as when and how often a video has been viewed, in addition to supporting protection options such as protected streaming, advertising protection and video DRM protection.

Adobe is also launching Adobe TV, a “free online video resource for expert instruction and inspiration about Adobe products, including the company’s Creative Suite 3 family of world-class creative tools.”

Offering “multiple channels, original series programming, and content from Adobe, leading training organizations and the world's leading subject matter experts, Adobe TV delivers a virtual library of entertaining and instructional videos. Designers, photographers, video professionals, and developers will find product deep-dives, innovative tips, techniques from luminaries, and behind-the-scenes tours of the hottest creative shops and Adobe product teams.”

The rise and rise of video has truly crossed a barrier that has seen video become an everyday part of many people’s Internet experiences.

All we need now is for Internet Service Providers to keep up, building better, faster and more scalable platforms to handle the vastly increased amounts of data that is already travelling across the Net.

For a version one product, Adobe’s Media Player is very cool, and is definitely worth downloading and trying for yourself, although you’ll get the best mileage, as always, with a fast broadband connection and a large download limit, as video certainly does chew through the downloads.

Adobe’s Media Player: truly amping up the competition in the Internet video space!
