Here comes the Xbox 360’s Wii-mote? E-mail

GameDaily.com had an interview with Sony’s VP of product marketing, Scott Steinberg, where he said that: "I think a Wii Remote style would feel a bit less innovative on the PS2, so I don't think we have any plans to go there. I think it's interesting to think of what different controller configurations could do for the PS3 and possibly for the PS2, but as a Wii Remote knock off, I don't think we're in the business of creating knock offs."

Clearly, if Microsoft is successful in bringing a Wii-like motion remote to the table, Sony will then be the odd one out, and I think Scott Steinberg will be hassling his R&D department to extend the SIXAXIS controller as much as possible.

But look, companies have a history of saying one thing, while doing the other under the table.

Who can doubt that Sony and Microsoft haven’t been awesomely surprised by the undeniable success of the lower powered Nintendo Wii?

Especially Sony, which is being soundly whupped in its own home territory, Japan, where the Wii continually outsells the PS3 by a ginormously wide margin?

Motion controlling, just like touch control on today’s mobile phones, is an incredibly important benefit, feature and experience.

Total and true interactivity is the goal. Ease of use is the goal. Being able to offer the same –or even better features – than the competition is the goal.

Taking the world away from simple button mashing is the goal.

Until Microsoft brings out their secret motion controller, they’re the odd one out. Odds on – it’ll come this year, just as MTV predicts, with the 2008 Christmas / holiday season for gamers set to be the biggest and best yet!

Do you believe it? I do. Share your thoughts with us...
