Is T-Mobile “dumping” the 2G iPhone – because 3G is coming? E-mail

Well, you might buy a 2G iPhone because you've held out all this time, and can't wait any longer.

Perhaps you know that if you buy one now, and it soon gets superseded, you can always pass it on to a family member - perhaps your mother who isn't a huge mobile phone fan, but who you know could use the iPhone in about 2 seconds flat.

But really, right at this very moment, there is no good reason to buy a 2G iPhone if you don't already have one.

So, while T-Mobile won’t – or can’t – confirm that the 3G iPhone is on the way, this ‘sales promotion’ simply reeks of an attempt to get users to snap up iPhones on the cheap, while hoping they’ll pay less attention to the rate plan.

Stay away. I love the iPhone, and have owned a 2G model myself since last August, but with 3G so close... resist the temptation and revel in the upcoming 3G goodness. It’ll be worth it!
