Borland claims "dramatically" improved performance from the new version of its StarTeam software change and configuration management system.

StarTeam 2008's combination of a single repository with remote caching is said to provide high performance without the equipment and administrative overheads of replication when used to support distributed development teams.

"With the majority of companies using distributed development models today, it is critical to maintain a secure, scaleable and reliable infrastructure for change management, while also keeping costs down," said Mark Wilkin, Managing Director of Borland ANZ.

"The Borland solution can reduce the expense of supporting geographically distributed development with what we believe is the most compelling cost and performance value proposition available in the market today."

Other enhancements include support for assets that are applied across projects, and simplifying the process of merging distributed project contributions.

Borland added StarTeam and CaliberRM to its portfolio when it acquired Starbase in 2003.
