Bean is a free open source application that includes handy features such as a live word count, timed autosave, smart quotes and the ability to keep the previous version when saving a file. RTF, RTFD, plain text, HTML and webarchive files are supported, along with limited compatibility with .doc and .docx. Carbon Copy Cloner 3.1 Mike Bombich's donationware disc cloning utility now uses rsync 3.0.0 for "even greater fidelity", checks whether the backup volume will be bootable, preserves the invisible flag when copying everything under Leopard, and fixes various other bugs.
