How to describe Miro? An open-source, cross-platform video player is a good starting point. Add facilities for automatically collecting new episodes of shows podcast-style, a built-in BitTorrent client for material distributed that way, and a conviction that open standards and a wide range of providers are the way to go, and you're getting closer. Anyway, version 1.2 includes "lots of tweaks and bug fixes" along with "important re-architecting of the frontend and backend code." Things you might notice include preferences to set new channels to not auto-download and to control the number of simultaneous auto-downloads. The Mac version also includes version 1.1 of Perian http://perian.org/, the open source QuickTime component that handles media file formats such as AVI, FLV and MKV. MainMenu 1.7.3 MainMenu is rather like OnyX and Cocktail in that it provides a GUI for a variety of system functions such as clearing caches and running the maintenance scripts. The difference is that it does the job via the menu bar so the tools are always at your fingertips. Version 1.7.3 adds support for Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard. Time Machine and AirPort Updates v1.0 Recommended by Apple for all users, this update improves compatibility between Time Capsule and Time Machine, as well as AirPort driver fixes. Time Capsule and AirPort Base Station (802.11n) Firmware 7.3.1 This update delivers bug fixes for Time Capsule, AirPort Extreme and AirPort Express, plus security fixes for AirPort Extreme. According to user reports, it also allows USB drives connected to an AirPort Extreme to be used as the destination for Time Machine backups. Software Watch highlights new and updated Mac software that I think is interesting, useful or otherwise significant.
