According to the U.S. Department of State, “In 1981, the U.S. Congress passed a resolution establishing National Women's History Week. In 1987, Congress expanded the week to a month, and has since passed such a resolution every year. Congressional action is followed by a U.S. presidential proclamation declaring March as Women’s History Month.”
March 2008 would be a good time to encourage girls to enter the fields of science, technology, mathematics, and engineering. A multitude of opportunities await in specific fields of aerospace engineering, medicine, physics, mathematics, geology, mechanical engineering, chemistry, computer science, anthropology, and many other interesting areas.

Who knows, one day a woman may be the first astronaut to step foot on Mars.

Additional information about the Mars Exploration Rovers appears on the NASA website “Mars Exploration Rovers Mission.”
