Page 2 of 2 According to the U.S. Department of State, “In 1981, the U.S. Congress passed a resolution establishing National Women's History Week. In 1987, Congress expanded the week to a month, and has since passed such a resolution every year. Congressional action is followed by a U.S. presidential proclamation declaring March as Women’s History Month.” Who knows, one day a woman may be the first astronaut to step foot on Mars. Additional information about the Mars Exploration Rovers appears on the NASA website “Mars Exploration Rovers Mission.” Please read about “Women in Science” from these websites: San Diego Supercomputer Center: “Women in Science: A Selection of 16 Significant Contributors” Association for Women in Science: “A Network, A Resource, A Voice” ThinkQuest: “Women in Science” Northeast Public Radio: “Women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics: On The Air”
