Page 2 of 2 Most manufacturers of upgradable Blu-ray players have almost finished work on Profile 2 upgrades, he said.Sun's Java language - originally designed by Gosling - is part of the Blu-ray standard. Apart from designing the Java language and implementing the original compiler and virtual machine, Gosling previously built a multiprocessor version of Unix and the Emacs text editor. He was also lead engineer of the NeWS window system project at Sun. His current role is that of a researcher at Sun labs, focussing on software development tools.
