Page 2 of 2 In short, Wozniak believes the iPhone should have been 3G from the start, doesn’t think the MacBook Air will be a runaway success in its current incarnation, and thinks the Apple TV should be improved, especially in the of movie rentals which are only playable for a 24-hour period. Wozniak commented on the upcoming US presidential election, some of the candidates and their electoral chances, and among many other things he spoke about, Wozniak lamented the demise of in-flight Internet, his thoughts on monopolies, the future of wireless, his thoughts on things being ‘free’ and life as a technology celebrity. In relation to the iPhone not being 3G because 3G technology was claimed to chew through battery life, Wozniak is quoted in APC Magazine as saying: “I never heard that. I never heard it was a battery issue - I don't understand why it would be a battery issue. I get as much life on my 3G phones as I do on my non-3G phones”. However he then gave himself an escape hatch saying: “Maybe I'm wrong, maybe I'm not paying close enough attention. But I don't think that's it though. Sure... the more you use it, the more bits you use, the more power it uses. That might make sense. I'm not privy to that”. News.com.au quotes Wozniak talking about Australia needing to upgrade to a fibre-to-the-home network after a fibre-to-the-node network is put in place, with Wozniak quoted saying: "People are going to be starting off and are going to be very satisfied with a bump in the high bandwidth that they're seeing (with FTTN) and after a while they'll want to (download) videos here and there and . . . have so much bandwidth needs that they'll start to feel pinched. So I think that fibre-to-the-home might be added in those cases." For a detailed publication of the questions posed to Wozniak from a range of journalists, a fascinating article from Australian Personal Computer (APC) Magazine, written by Dan Warne, a small portion of which we directly quoted above, provides all the juicy details of exactly what Wozniak said – even down to Steve Jobs’ reaction when some ‘negative’ Apple press emanates from statements Wozniak has made. It's a must-read. Australia’s ZDNet has an article by Jo Best with her take on Wozniak’s comments, while Australia’s News.com.au has Cath Hart giving her thoughts, too. Wozniak – the original Apple Wozni-hacker. Let’s hope Steve Jobs is truly listening to some of what Wozniak has to say, and brings out a 3G iPhone that will impress us all once again – and maybe this time even Steve Wozniak!
