Don’t look to the relatively feature-poor MacBook Air, but look to Lenovo’s feature-rich ThinkPad X300 instead, billed as “the thinnest, lightest ‘No Compromises’ ultraportable notebook PC in its class”. Of course, Lenovo can’t claim it is the thinnest modern PC – that honour goes, without question to the MacBook Air, which can also run Windows XP or Vista if you want it to. But Lenovo class it as more of a ‘consumer’ machine, while positioning their own X300 as being perfect for ‘boardroom warriors’ – and possibly also because only boardroom warriors will be able to afford the AUD $3999 price tag! Naturally, it’s lightweight at 1.3 kilograms, something that goes up to 1.6 kilograms with additional batteries – still much lighter than many competing and much thicker models. Lindsay Tobin, Lenovo’s Notebook man for Australia and New Zealand, said that: “The ThinkPad X300 notebook marks a major milestone for the Think family and for the entire PC industry”. Tobin continued that: “We’ve been pioneering notebook design for more than 20 years, raising the bar on innovation, focusing on the core areas of the ThinkPad brand – quality, reliability and functionality.
