Microsoft 64-bit Vista SP1 early release snafu E-mail

Well, there’s a stack of Vista 64-bit users for whom the mid-March timeframe is now meaningless, for the update is already on their computer, although as they say, ‘general availability’ is still set for mid-March.

Lucky for Microsoft there isn’t a stack of Vista 64-bit users screaming because of some new hardware or software incompatibility... or at least, not yet.

Why isn’t Microsoft quintuple checking everything and anything to do with SP1 before they hit the ‘go’ button? Each additional stuff-up compounds on the ones before, making people wonder just what is going on over there in Redmond, especially after Vista’s troubled birth.

It looks like Microsoft’s original decision to delay general availability of SP1 until mid-March really was the right one.

If, after all this, you still want to try SP1 early, go ahead. I’ll be waiting until mid-March, thank you very much, and even then, definitely won’t be pressing the ‘update’ button until I’ve read a few more reports that it really is safe.
