Airfoil is a handy utility for directing any audio output from a Mac to other devices and computers.
Where the AirTunes feature of the AirPort Express is specific to iTunes, Airfoil lets you send sound originating from any application. In addition to directing audio to an AirPort Express, Airfoil also works with the free Airfoil Speakers utility for Mac OS X or Windows allowing a computer to be used as a set of remote speakers.
Version 3.1 (a free upgrade from 3.0, or $US25 for new purchasers) also works with Apple TV, fixes a DVD playback issue that surfaced with Mac OS X 10.5.2
Software Watch highlights new and updated Mac software that I think is interesting, useful or otherwise significant. It makes no recommendations - its purpose is merely to provide pointers for people who share my interests.
