The software is based on InterSystems' Caché database system and allows the integration of other software to provide a single-view electronic patient record.

According to Kerry Stratton, the company's managing director, healthcare, said the software can be used to provide end to end solutions whether it is used in an individual hospital or other body, or at a regional or national level.

Research and development work on TrakCare is done in Australia, and that is where the work will remain, COO Christine Chapman said. The company has a very strong development team that can quickly bring newcomers up to speed, and employs a full-time recruiter to locate the best development staff.

In related news, New Zealand's Wakefield Health group of three private hospitals is also deploying TrakCare. This follows the deployment of the software by St George's Hospital (Christchurch) and Mercy Hospital (Dunedin).
