Page 1 of 2 The 1GB model is set to retail for only US $49, setting a new low price for ‘the world’s most affordable iPod’, while the 2GB model will retail for US $69. UPDATE: Australian prices have come through and are listed on page 2. The iPod Shuffle has been facing competitive threats from the Creative Zen Stone and the Sandisk Sansa Clip, among many other iPod Shuffle-like devices, featuring either cheaper pricing, more memory, more features, or a combination of all three. Finally introducing a 2GB model gives Shuffle lovers even more storage space to wear their music with, while showing other mp3 makers that Apple isn’t afraid to compete, no doubt to continue their strong market leadership position for some time to come across the entire iPod range. Greg Joswiak, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide iPod Product Marketing said that: “At just US $49, the iPod shuffle is the most affordable iPod ever. The new 2GB model lets music lovers bring even more songs everywhere they go in the impossibly small iPod shuffle.” Apple says the 1GB iPod Shuffle is available immediately at the newly lowered price, in the US at least, with the 2GB iPod Shuffle due to arrive in US stores “later this month”. |
