In addition, making and receiving Skype calls on your computer, whether for voice or video calls, does use up some of your bandwidth which you are paying for each month. But unless you are a regular user of Skype's video calling capabilities, especially at the new 'high quality' standard with appropriate Logitech 2 megapixel webcams, the total bandwidth usage is small, only taking up a small portion of your monthly download limit. This effectively means your Skype calls are 'free', as they fall within the costs you are already paying for your broadband connection, instead of adding to your costs in the way calls made on a PSTN landline or on a mobile phone can add to your costs, chewing up your minutes if nothing else for those on a 'capped' PSTN or mobile plan.
