The NASA Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate announced on Wednesday, February 13, 2008, that it will accept university applications from undergraduates and graduates between February 22 and March 17, 2008.

The NASA fall 2008 scholarship program involves students interested in studying in the field of aeronautics, along with related programs.

The field of aeronautics involves the science and engineering related to the operation and flight of aircraft.

If awarded a scholarship, students, who must be a U.S. citizens, can expect up to $35,000 per year for a three-year period of time. The money can be applied to room-and-board, tuition, and other school-related expenses.

Students can also apply for summer internships at NASA research centers in order to gain valuable experience in the inner workings of the NASA organization. Such awards will be for $10,000.

If awarded a scholarship, students must be enrolled in an aeronautical engineering program or related field at a U.S. university for the fall 2008 session.

According to NASA, its Aeronautics Research Mission Directorateworks to enhance the state of aeronautics for the nation, transform the U.S. air transportation system and develop the knowledge, tools and technologies to support future air and space vehicles. The directorate's focus is on cutting-edge, fundamental research in traditional aeronautical disciplines, as well as emerging fields with promising applications to aeronautics. “
