Kaspersky launches ‘Mobile Security 7.0’ protection for smartphones E-mail

Kaspersky say that Mobile Security 7.0 scans “incoming files and network connections in real-time, performing antivirus scans of the whole device on demand or on schedule. The product also blocks messages from unwanted or incorrect numbers, as well as SMS messages containing words or phrases entered by the user into a blacklist”.

You’ll want to make sure that you’re either on a phone plan that gives you affordable data usage, as the software can be set to regularly update its antivirus database and ‘module functions’ over WAP or HTTP (over GPRS, EDGE or better networks).

Alternatively, you can elect to receive the updates over Wi-Fi, if your phone has Wi-Fi built in, or you can simply get your phone to receive the updates when you synchronise it with your PC.

We'll have to ask Kaspersky to send us a review copy so that we can test its performance. Many older smartphones are equipped with slower processors and already operate a bit slowly, so we're hoping that Kaspersky have made the software as efficient and speedy as possible, and we'll write a follow up article in the future to judge this.

Still, it's clear that security threats for smartphones are only going to grow, something that will eventually make this kind of security software an essential addition to any smartphone from any mobile phone manufacturer.

Mobile Security 7.0 is available now from Kaspersky’s Australian website for AUD $36.67.
