Bloch claimed that the skills shortage was already impacting business. "We have situations with the Government where they want a solution and we have the solution but it stops there because they simply don't have the people to implement it...To get people who can get across voice and IP and the associated technologies is getting very difficult. Put video over the top of its and it is going to become even more so."

Cisco's Indian initiative is on two fronts. Two of India's largest technology training organisations, IIHT and NIIT, have become Cisco Certified Learning Solutions Partners. They join Global Knowledge and Training Partner Ltd, a business unit of Datacraft India, in offering the complete range of authorised Cisco training materials and certifications to students and professionals in more than 200 locations throughout the country.

Cisco is also increasing access to its examination facilities through its primary test-delivery partner, Pearson VUE, which will add 150 testing facilities across India by the end of the year. Pearson VUE will also deploy several mobile testing centres to increase access to technology in rural and underserved areas.
