Roswall has not been quick to act, foreshadowing the charges in May 2007 following a May 2006 raid on The Pirate Bay's servers. That raid was conducted with the encouragement of the Motion Picture Association of America, and that foreign involvement led to controversy in Sweden. While Sunde, Neij and Warg allegedly have direct connections with the site, Lunstrom's involvement appears to relate to his tenure as CEO of hosting company Rix Telecom, which reportedly provided The Pirate Bay with cheap bandwidth because one of the site's administrators was a Rix employee. The International Herald Tribune reports that according to his lawyer, Sunde is only a spokesperson for The Pirate Bay and has no financial interest in the site. John Kennedy, chairman and chief executive of recording industry body IFPI, said "We welcome the filing of these charges in Sweden. The evidence presented by the prosecutor shows that The Pirate Bay, which claims to be motivated by idealism, is really motivated by making money." CONTINUES |
