Apple CEO Steve Jobs welcomed Jung to the board, saying "Andrea is a strong CEO and marketer and we look forward to benefiting from her insights and experience as a member of Apple’s board." Jung has held senior executive positions with Avon since 1996. She previously worked for retailers Neiman Marcus and I. Magnin. In 2007, Fortune magazine ranked Jung number 9 in its "Power 50" list of the most powerful women in business. Her appointment to the Apple board could be a sign that the company has realised the importance of marketing to women, or it could simply reflect the importance of the Apple Stores to the company's overall performance. Apple's other directors are Bill Campbell (chairman and former CEO of financial software company Intuit), Millard Drexler (chairman and CEO of clothing retailer J. Crew), Al Gore (former Vice President of the United States), Steve Jobs, Arthur Levinson (chairman and CEO of biotechnology pioneer Genentech), Eric Schmidt (CEO of search giant Google), and Jerry York (chairman, president and CEO of private investment firm Harwinton Capital, and formerly a director of IBM). |
