Page 1 of 3 When asked to pick his own top game of the year, BioShock designer Ken Levine had his own problems during a recent 1up interview: “My friend Andrew Mayer, who's also a game designer, said that '07 was kind of like 1939 in Hollywood, when the nominees included Gone with the Wind, The Wizard of Oz, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington and a bunch of other all-time classics. So, I'm gonna stay away from the traditional favorites here and go with J'eanne D'Arc on the PSP. That said, Portal was amazing, as was Rock Band, Galaxy and too many others to mention. What an insanely great year.” Let’s have a look at the Radioactive IT top games of 2007. Firstly the games that missed out on being on the list and why, remembering that I don’t get to look at every release in depth. Right at this time I am winding my way through a bunch of worthy contenders for GOTY – but so far I haven’t got to the point in any of these where I would be happy to include them for contention this year. For that simple reason we don’t see Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, Mass Effect, Super Mario Galaxy or Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction on this years list. All of these are worthy games which I am enjoying a great deal; they are only excluded by dint of my time poor situation. Then there are those games that just haven’t made it from the top of the pile of things to check, or simply are not in this country yet – so, no Orange Box or Rock Band - *sniff*. Conversely I threw games such as Gears of War and Medieval Total War 2 into the mix, though released late in 2006, they filled my roster of 2007 playables. So with that in mind, here are my thoughts on my favourite titles for 2007. First the honourable mentions, both from the venerable PlayStation 2, firstly the blood thirsty and therefore fun God of War II , and secondly the twelfth in the increasingly inaccurately named Final Fantasy series. Then there was Drawn to Life for the Nintendo DS, bring your own character and devices to the heroic adventures contained within, great creative fun. Now onto the top 10. |
