Services now free to browse on Next G handsets include “selected content such as news, weather, sports scores and much more”. Telstra is characterising the removal of certain browsing charges for the use of certain pages on Telstra’s Next G online service, accessed directly on the mobile phone itself, as a bit of a Christmas pressie, saying that they’re ‘lighting up the mobile world this festive season’. David Moffatt, the Consumer Marketing and Channels Group MD of Telstra, said in a media statement that: “The customer base is currently growing around 250,000 per month and in the last two months we have surpassed the two million mark”. Moffatt continued that: “The removal of browsing charges from Thursday within the BigPond Mobile Home and Today tabs is great news Next G and [Telstra] 3G services. From today they can check news updates, get the weekend forecast, use the WhereIs map functionality, preview BigPond TV and Music, get sports scores and much more, as many times as they want, for no charge”.
