20,000 Wii’s secured for Aussie Christmas E-mail

Though they are still somewhat difficult to find , Nintendo Australia has assured consumers that an addition 20,000 Wii game consoles are winging their way south for Australian retailers.

Rose Lappin, Managing Director of Nintendo Australia feels the pain of Santa’s Elves this year.

According to a report from The Australian , Lappin indicated Nintendo will ramp up Wii production starting next year, yet the details are still to be thrashed out a global meeting in Japan early 2008.

At the launch December last year, Nintendo Australia had 40,000 units available for sale.  These rapidly sold out, along with supplies of the unique Wii controller the Wii-mote..

Here we are a year later and what has changed?  Well Lappin is up-beat about the continued success of the console; "I see it as very positive - the Wii is still selling as strongly as it is a year after it launched."

She allayed the fears of some Elves desperately searching for the elusive console (the search for the Wii could almost be a game plot unto itself!) by mentioning 20,000 consoles are being shipped to local retailers next week.

This new shipment will join 20,000 units currently in the system, so similar to launch time; Australia has 40,000 Wii units leading up to Christmas.

Local retailers are philosophical about the stock situation; "We're anticipating that we'll run out," Electronics Boutique managing director Steve Wilson said. "If it goes as hard as it should we should run out."

If you are in the market for a Wii this Christmas, good luck.
