Microsoft will round off the year with the release of seven security bulletins next Tuesday, December 11.

The critical issues relate to all currently supported versions of Windows, including Vista, and to DirectX, Internet Explorer and the Windows Media Format Runtime.

Two of the important issues are specific to Vista, and one to XP and Server 2003. The fourth is rated important on Windows 2000 but only moderate on XP.

Most of the vulnerabilities addressed allow remote code execution, with just two providing an opportunity for privilege escalation.

December's Patch Tuesday will also see the customary arrival of an updated Malicious Software Removal Tool.

THe company also plans to release six non-security, high-priority updates via Microsoft Update and Windows Server Update Services, and one via Windows Update.
