Page 2 of 2 Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime spoke to the Associated Press and said that stocks of the Wii were sold out in a range of consumer retail stores he visited in the US, with consumers snapping them up, and expressing regret that they didn’t foresee just how popular the Wii would be so they could have had more stock on hand to sell. The Thanksgiving sales have also happened after the Halo 3 mega launch, and after the price cut of the PS3 offering the 40GB model for only US $399. So, despite a massive onslaught from both Sony and Microsoft, Nintendo actually managed to break sales records, showing just how successful they have been at not only engaging traditional gamers but plenty of people for whom console gaming was simply not on their radar before. The Wii truly has broken new ground. As long as Nintendo and its partners can continue creating great interactive games for the Wii, the allure of great and satisfying gameplay will continue to shine strongly in Nintendo’s favour. Nintendo are also in the fantastic position of being able to easily upgrade the Wii, should they so desire, sooner than the successor to the Xbox 360 or the PS3 are due, giving the Wii higher definition graphics, more internal storage or other features, while keeping the backwards compatibility Nintendo is famous for. So, don’t expect any price cuts for the Wii anytime soon, and remember, if you want one, you’d better start looking now, there’s only 26 more shopping days until Christmas! |
