Supermarket slices iPod shuffle E-mail

Finding a cut-price iPod in a normal store isn't easy - presumably because the margins are reputedly very slim.

You'll sometimes see online stores selling them at a modest discount, but by the time you've added shipping the total cost is as much as - or possibly more - than it would cost to buy locally or from the Apple Store, which doesn't charge for delivery.

So I was surprised to see that Aldi supermarkets in Australia will be selling iPod shuffles later this week for $A89.

They're only available in silver or blue, and only "while stocks last". Some of Aldi's electronics specials sell out very quickly, while others linger for most of the week. If you're keen, it may pay to call in on Thursday morning.

Aldi has previously sold iPods at a discount in other parts of the world, but as far as I am aware this is a first for Australia.

The offer is well timed with Christmas approaching rapidly. And before anyone carps about it being "only" a $10 saving, remember that for some that could be the difference between finding one under the tree and having to make do with a less desirable alternative.
