Seems the recent sales success of the Sony PlayStation 3 in Japan was not a one off.

CVG has a report with figures from the week ending Nov 18.

The handheld Nintendo DS still tops the list with 81,000 units shifted in Japan.

Sony comes in second with its own branded handheld gaming device the PlayStation Portable (PSP) on 66,000 sold.

Then, it is the fully-fledged home consoles reporting in, with Sony again 20,000 ahead of Nintendo.  The PS3 sold 53,000 consoles compared with the Wii's 36,000.  This despite Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles released during the week and moving 105,000 units for the Wii.

The Xbox 360 continued to lag in Japan, keeping its nose above the waves at 5000 units sold.
