A preview version of FileMaker's forthcoming Bento personal database is available for download.

Exclusively for Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard, Bento provides a single place to store personal information.

"With Bento, we are providing an incredibly easy way to manage all your information - iCal calendar events, Address Book contacts, digital media and files - all in one place, effortlessly," said FileMaker president Dominique Goupil.

A particularly useful feature is that it provides live links to Address Book and iCal, so there is no need to re-enter or synchronise that data. This also means that changes automatically flow to and from the user's iPhone, iPod touch, or .Mac account. (Mac OS X's iSync utility can synchronise the data with other devices such as mobile phones and PDAs, and sync-aware applications such as Entourage.)

Suggested uses for Bento include co-ordinating events such as parties, tracking assignments and other projects, connecting related information, maintaining a home inventory, creating media libraries, and linking photos and other files to particular projects or events.

A selection of templates and themes are provided to kickstart the use of the software. Data can be imported from any program that can write CSV files.

The preview can be downloaded from bentotrial.com.

The release version of Bento is scheduled to ship in January 2008 - presumably at Macworld Expo.
