PS2 revamp delayed E-mail

When the redesigned PlayStation 2 was announced in September, Sony said it would ship by November 1 in Europe and North America, and by November 3 in Japan. Those dates have slipped.

Sony is now targeting November 22 for the launch in Japan, while markets covered by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (which also include the Middle East, Africa and Oceania) will miss out for Christmas as the new model won't be available until early 2008.

Despite having an internal power adaptor, the revised PS2 weighs in at just over 720g (approx 28oz). It will be available in black, white and silver, with an optional stand for vertical mounting.

The price of the revamped PS2 is expected to be the same as the previous model.

Sony's announcement refers to the PS2's strong support from "a wide demographic of users around the world", which sounds suspiciously like a 'me too' claim referencing the Wii's widely reported success in attracting non-traditional gamers.
