5 Best Practices for Smartphone Support
Nokia’s ultra popular and feature rich N95 will finally become available with Next G support and both surprisingly, and happily, with the rural coverage certification tick, giving rural and regional Australians the ability to buy and use one of the world’s most advanced converged devices, with a mobile phone, video phone, computer, 5 megapixel camera, high quality video camera, radio, high speed wireless broadband modem, mp3 player, GPS mapping and more. While anyone in rural and regional areas has been able to buy a Nokia N95 since around March this year, they would have been limited to EDGE connectivity speeds of around 100kbps. With Next G, this is boosted to the theoretical max of 3.6Mbps, with real world speeds of 550kbps to 1.5Mbps – a massive improvement that makes the phone’s online features a true joy to use. The phone will cost AUD $1199 or will be available for $150 on a 24 month plan. Another flagship phone is the Samsung Widescreen A821. Featuring a cool dual opening hinge, allowing the phone to open as a clamshell, or in ‘laptop’ configuration for widescreen video viewing, the phone features a QWERTY keypad which contains within it a standard dialling keypad, making the phone great for watching one of the 33 channels on Foxtel Mobile, not including the BigPond TV channels, enhanced with an electronic program guide, and for Foxtel IQ owners, the ability to program their Foxtel IQ boxes remotely right from their mobile phone to record shows at home from wherever and whenever desired. The QWERTY keyboard makes messaging, email, data entry and entering web addresses a breeze, and gives the phone a very cool look with its dual opening hinge. It’s also the first Next G phone to operate at speeds of up to the theoretical max of 7.2Mbps, giving download speeds of anywhere from 550kbps to 6Mbps, a true speed boost over 3.6Mbps class phones. The A821 retails for $1099 or for $100 on a 24 month plan. This 7.2Mbps speed matches the capability of Telstra’s new Next G wireless broadband PCMCIA and Expresscard modems, although the Expresscard models not only feature the faster HSDPA speeds of 7.2Mbps but also the faster HSUPA speeds of up to 1.9Mbps when uploading, with speeds of around 1 to 1.3Mbps seen on testing, far faster than the up to 384Kbps speeds of traditional 3G devices. Samsung also have a slim slider in the A811, which is a fashionable model that also features the 7.2Mbps speed compatibility, which is perfect for Next G customers wanting to use their phone as a wireless broadband modem and enjoy the fastest wireless broadband speeds possible. It retails for $999 outright or $100 on a 24 month plan. Ms Holly Kramer, Telstra’s Product Management Group Managing Director, said that “Mobile phones have entered a new phase of development and evolved into multi-functional media devices. With the higher download data speeds on Telstra’s Next G™ network, customers can take full advantage of richer mobile content and more advanced applications”. Kramer continued that: “Downloading large files, receiving emails with attachments, or watching live streaming video can now be done as effortlessly on your 7.2 Mbps enabled Next G™ mobile handset as on your wireless laptop”. So, what's Telstra's new phone specifically designed for rural and regional users like, and what's the news on Telstra's new mobile payments solution? Please read onto page 2 for the conclusion! |
