AEEMA CEO, Angus Robinson, predicted that: "Members will quickly see the benefits of being part of a large industry grouping committed collectively to creating business opportunities for its members which in turn bring economic development for future generations of Australians." He told iTWire that, while the AEEMA board would no longer exist the functional units of AEEMA would be transferred into Ai Group and retained. "the AEEMA advisory council would be retain and embedded in the Ai Group. It will help develop finely tuned policy which will help the Ai executive in putting technology focussed issues to government." He added: "The principle driver [for the merger] was the recognition that we need to get a higher level of critical mass and members are looking for better value for their membership fees so now they will get business services in addition to technical services, so it is a pretty fantastic value proposition." He was, however, non-committal on whether fees would increase as a result. "Over the next few years there will need to be discussion about a new fee structure." Ai Group CEO, Heather Ridout, said that Ai Group would be able to offer AEEMA members an enhanced suite of services and programs, as well as a more influential voice in an increasingly competitive global marketplace. "From 1 January 2008, AEEMA members will gain access to Ai Group's comprehensive business services and specialised technical programs, such as training, advice and assistance on human resources, workplace relations, procurement, energy and environment services, economic analysis, export development, occupational health and safety and legal issues" |
