Unwired is positioning itself as a global leader in the deployment, operation and marketing of broadband wireless networks and is seeking to exploit this expertise in overseas markets.

Addressing what could be the company's last AGM as a listed company (it is the subject of a takeover bid by Seven Network ) CEO, David Spence, said: "Unwired now has a global reputation as a world leader in the roll-out, marketing and operation of wireless broadband networks and we believe there is a global market for our experience and solutions...We have...made significant progress in ensuring our network is as efficient as possible, enabling us to maximise the number of customers we can have on the network at one time, and ultimately delivering a better experience to those customers."

Spence said: "We have developed a range of tools and capabilities in-house, which we call ubowireless - these software tools have enhanced the connection experience of our customers and delivered network efficiencies - efficiencies that have allowed us to increase capacity on a per base station basis. As a result of using ubowireless to support individual customers and to monitor the overall performance of our base stations, we are seeing a more even distribution of capacity across the network, resulting in lower operating costs and a better customer experience."

Unwired's efforts to sell its expertise will now be channelled through a new subsidiary company, also named ubowireless, formed in June 2007 and which now has 10 staff. Spence said: "As the world adopts wireless data broadband services, there will be a growing need for network and business optimisation technologies worldwide. Just as Unwired found how quickly data demands grew across its network, other wireless broadband companies will also experience issues requiring real-time optimisation solutions such as ubowireless...We have trialled ubowireless with an overseas wireless network provider and established that there is a market for this product worldwide To explore and develop this opportunity we have used a commercial ready grant from AusIndustry, together with funding from Unwired."

However he was not willing to put any numbers or timeframe on this business, saying: "ubowireless is something of an unknown quantity for Unwired and due to the long sales cycles, we can give no predictions of future income streams. We are however, optimistic about the future of this exciting technology."{moscomment}
