School staff are also licensed to use the nominated software at no additional charge, while students qualify to purchase certain items at significantly reduced prices. Software covered by the agreement includes Office, Visio, Project, Expression Web, other desktop and server applications, and operating system upgrades. The Department’s relationship with Commander began in 1993 when the Department first awarded a contract to IPEX to supply and rollout CASES hardware. IPEX was acquired by Volante in 2004, which in turn was acquired by Commander in 2006. "The Victorian Department of Education and Early Childhood Development is one of Commander's most important, long-standing contracts," said Adrian Coote, Commander Managing Director. Commander inherited the relationship when it acquired Volante last year. Volante previously acquired IPEX, which had been supplying the education department since 1993. "After such a long working relationship, it's very rewarding to have our quality of service and value re-acknowledged and rewarded through a competitive tender process," added Coote.
