After a false start and rumours of disagreement, Apple has finally announced that Orange will be the exclusive carrier for the iPhone in France.

The French price for the iPhone will be €399 with a service contract, just as previously announced for Germany. To comply with French law, Orange will also sell an unlocked version of the phone without a contract at a price that has yet to be announced.

Would be French buyers will have to wait until November 29, almost three weeks after the first European iPhones (ignoring grey imports) go on sale in the UK though O2 and in Germany via T-Mobile.

"The iPhone is a marvelous product and will change how people think about mobile. I'm delighted that it is launching in France through Orange, and I'm sure that our customers share my excitement," said Didier Lombard, CEO, France Telecom.

"Our partnership with Apple is a natural fit because we are two global brands who share the same values of simplicity and innovation. It’s going to be a very merry Christmas for Orange customers all over the country!"

Orange is France Telecom's mobile phone operation.
