On 4 September NewSat announced a partnership with ISP Dodo in a bid to secure Australian Broadband Guarantee funding to provide satellite-based broadband services to rural Australia. There is no indication so far that Dodo is involved in this deal.

Federal funding for the project, $1.3 million, was announced by communications minister Helen Coonan on 6 April 2005 in the second round of funding under Australian Government's Coordinated Communications Infrastructure Fund (CCIF). "Communities in the Kimberley region will have increased access to distance education opportunities, online banking and e-business facilities. Health professionals will also have improved access to medical records and specialist services," Coonan said.

"The Western Australian Department of Industry and Resources will lead the project, in partnership with the Kimberley Development Commission and the Western Australian Departments of Treasury and Finance and Local Government and Regional Development."{moscomment}
