Adobe patches critical vulnerabilities E-mail

Adobe has warned customers of critical vulnerabilities in GoLive 9 and Illustrator CS3 that can be exploited through malformed files to take control of a system.

The Illustrator issue concerns the BMP, PNG and Targa file formats, and has been addressed with updates for the Mac and Windows versions. The revised plugins are available from Adobe's web site.

GoLive has a similar problem with its corresponding plugins, but a replacement PNG plugin has yet to be released for the Mac and Adobe recommends removing the existing version as a temporary measure until the new one is available.

Updated BMP and Targa plugins, plus a PNG plugin for the Windows version, are available from Adobe's web site.

"Adobe encourages all customers to be cautious before opening any unknown file, regardless of which application they may be using," said Adobe officials.
