Several US journalists have been given pre-release access to Zoho DB and comments are generally very favourable: "an impressive application, full of the features that users of databases like Access are accustomed to"; "Zoho [has kept one step ahead of Google] with their products always being on a par with or better than Google's applications...Zoho is still going strong, and with 13 online applications under its belt they clearly show that they're ready to fight Google's office applications head on"; "At this point, Zoho has the lead in the completeness of its suite versus the other online suite makers--Google, Think Free and, now, Adobe."

Zoho is a subsidiary of AdventNet, a software company founded in 1996 with some 10,000 customers around the world. Zoho claims to have 150 developers working on its products and, in August claimed to have 300,000 customers with the last third of those being signed up in four months.

Zoho DB is its 14th application. However it is unclear how Zoho intends to generate revenue: at present access to all applications is free and site does not appear to carry advertising. The terms and conditions state that: "AdventNet reserves the right at any time to charge or modify fees for access to portions or whole of any or all of the services. However, such fees shall not be charged unless your prior agreement to pay such charges is obtained."{moscomment}
