Acer's Aspire M5630 is the first desktop PC to feature a combo Blu-ray/HD DVD drive, company officials claim. "Acer realised that the battle between Blu-ray and HD-DVD is still in play, and therefore understood the need to create a solution that future proofed our offering in the market," said Raymond Vardanega, marketing director of Acer Computer Australia. LG recently announced its XPION LX97WH PC for the home market in Korea, featuring a Blu-ray/HD DVD drive. Although Acer did not identify the drive used in the Aspire M5630, it is likely to be LG's Super Multi Blu. Other features include a Core 2 Quad CPU, 2G of DDR2 RAM, a 500G SATA hard disk, ATI X2400 Pro 256MB PCI-Express x16 video card, wireless keyboard and mouse, Vista Home Premium, and an Acer HDCP 22in LCD. Prices start at $A2299. If you need to save a few hundred dollars, there's also a Core 2 Duo version with a 320G drive for $A1999. Deliveries will start early this month (October 2007). |
