Sony Computer Entertainment has acquired UK based Evolution Studios and Bigbig Studios.

Evolution is known for MotorStorm for the PS3 and the World Rally Championship series for PS2. Bigbig, a subsidiary of Evolution, is the home of Pursuit Force for PSP. The company was backed by Evolution and Sony Computer Entertainment.

"Our strategy is to create the best games by working with the best talent and Evolution and Bigbig are world-class additions to our team," said Phil Harrison, president of SCE Worldwide Studios. "The incredible people in these studios further extend the depth and skill of the industry's largest platform-exclusive development resource."

Evolution MD Mick Hocking will also be appointed group studio director, overseeing SCE WWS Liverpool Studio as well as Evolution and Bigbig. He will report to SCE WWS vice president Michael Denny.

Financial and other terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
