Page 3 of 3 Sadly no 16GB model iPhone yet exists, but given the fact the iPod touch is available in this capacity, we are sure to see a future 16GB iPhone, and likely a 32GB model too. It was incredibly telling that Jobs chose not to use standard 1.8-inch hard drive technology in the iPod touch, limiting it to 16GB flash but avoiding the much thicker size that the 8mm-thin iPod touch would have been had it been equipped with a hard disk 10 times the size at 160GB. Well, Apple’s harvest has once again proved incredibly bountiful, with Steve Jobs yet again pushing the envelope and seriously upping the ante to all his competitors who must all be revising Christmas 2007 sales of their music players downwards in light of Apple’s new iPod announcements. With virtually all other mp3 music players being little more than poor clones of the iPod, even if some include additional features like inbuilt FM radios or memory card sockets, the iPod will, once again, be the year’s most popular digital device, giving us fantastic new capabilities in technology that is unquestionably 21st century. Those still selling 20th century iPod clones now have technology that looks even more dated than it did before. C’mon, competitors, it’s time to set those R&D budgets to warp speed to try and come up with something even half as good as the new iPod range. After all, even though Apple doesn’t seem to need any competition to offer better products, competition still brings out the best in everyone, although when Apple competes, they do it at a level that just about every other player simply can’t understand. If you don’t believe me, check back in January when we go over iPod sales compared with the rest. It really will be Apple wiping everyone else into the dust. Take note, Sony, Samsung, iRiver, Creative and everyone else. Innovate or die. The new iPods have landed, and the iPod touch is tapping you all on the shoulder! |
