The trial will start in early 2008 in Melbourne with 250 customers to be selected by NAB. About 30 store locations in Melbourne will be equipped with the readers. No information was available on the planned duration of the trial. However, NAB executive general manager retail banking, Andrew Thorburn, said: "In the not too distant future we envisage NAB customers being able to walk into a shop, give their mobile a quick wave over a reader and simply walk out with their purchases." Credit card functionality however is only one potential application for the technology. The SIM could carry multiple credit cards and/or loyalty, membership cards, marketing offers, public transport tickets and building access security cards. "Instead of having a wallet or purse full of plastic cards, you could soon have them all supported on a single Telstra mobile phone, providing enhanced security and convenience," Telstra's Group managing director enterprise and government, David Thodey, said Telstra Visa International executive vice president, Australia, New Zealand and South Pacific, Bruce Mansfield, said that Visa was participating in similar trials with financial institutions and telecommunications companies in the United States and Asia. "Visa expects the experience from those initiatives will be of great benefit to this partnership with NAB and Telstra, and will help ensure a smooth introduction in Australia."

Great article, but which phone?
written by NFCuser, August 31, 2007
It sounds like you are describing the new BENQ T80 phone with the Microsoft OS NXP chip in an SDmicro slot, and Sirit NFC software that is being launched in Taiwan and Mainland China before the end of the year. I am amazed that you can write the whole article, and not tell us which phone is being tested. Lame.
Great article if you actually read it?

In response to the comment above. It clearly says the SIM CARD not the actual phone. Any sim card capable phone could be used. Excluding (of course) CDMA phones which dont use a SIM.
Lame you say? Oh yeah! lol

So, according to Jacquie, ALL phones with SIM cards perform NFC functions.
Yes, Lame I also say to you too. There are numerous groups trying to get a piece of this market with special phones that will be launched in the next year. They are chasing the Nokia 6131. The SIM cards handle the account info. I just thought it was lame to not tell us which phone. I saw several clips on a BENQ phone named E21 in China, and thought this may be the same phone. Get over yourself, jack Tell us what you think! better to paste your comment - this page will refresh every 15 minutes
