Fresh from a world-wide price cut, the next few months are important for Microsofts Xbox 360 platform, to coax consumers towards cash registers, Microsoft consider the following titles crucial to success.

First up is the latest offering from Bioware - the folks that brought us Knights of the Old Republic and Jade Empire most recently.

This time however we look at Mass Effect.

Microsoft say; ""Mass Effect" An epic science-fiction action and role-playing game, "Mass Effect" will deliver an immersive, story-driven experience presented in a cinematic style with high production values."

From the details so far presented, Mass Effect will be a game of ambitious scope, providing players with a whole galaxy to explore and interact with.  Given the pedigree of the developer, an RPG must-have is sure to be the result.

Mass Effect will hit shelves towards the end of December.

Next Microsoft try to revive the image of Xbox 360 as a 'Party Machine', firstly by extending the fun and accessible Viva Piñata, with Viva Piñata Party Animals.

More colour laden mini games for the entire family. Compete against housemates or across Xbox Live against VP fans around the world,

Then there is Scene it?  Taking the concept from the board game of the same name and giving it the Xbox 360 treatment.

Microsoft say; ""Scene it?" brings the fun of movie trivia to players of all ages with new TV and movie clips in high definition as well as five new puzzle challenges never before shown in a Scene It? Game. It also ships with four new Xbox 360 Big Button Pads and will be available this Christmas, only on Xbox 360."

Microsoft are attempting to cash in on some of the popularity of PS2's success with the Buzz series of games.

Finally Halo 3 was not going to be left off Microsoft's list of near future hot items.

They say;""Halo 3" In a year when Hollywood is launching its biggest blockbusters ever, one video game may well conquer them all. "Halo(r) 3," the final chapter in the groundbreaking "Halo" trilogy, is preparing to shatter day-one entertainment sales records when it is released worldwide on September 25. Created by legendary developer Bungie Studios and exclusive to the Xbox 360TM videogame and entertainment system, "Halo 3" will raise the bar for interactive story-telling and social gaming by engaging consumers worldwide in Master Chief's epic battle to save humankind."

How big must the piles of fingernails be in the collective Bungie and Microsoft offices over this title?  As the first true Next-gen outing of the Halo series, and given the popularity of the Multiplayer Beta test earlier in the year, a lot is riding on its success.

You would think that fans of the series might well have an Xbox 360 already tucked away in their living rooms.  Bringing out a Halo themed Xbox 360 will no doubt be popular, as will the game as a software sale.  But one doubts if Microsoft will see associated hardware sales driven by the Halo 3 release as they did with the original game and Xbox.

We all want to know how the Master Chief makes out in his final outing to save Earth.  Not long to wait now.
