Yahoo!7 has appointed m.Net Corporation as its provider of mobile marketing and distribution solutions under a three-year agreement.

m.Net will distribute content from Yahoo!7, Seven Network, and Pacific Magazines, with a particular focus on video. m.Net chief marketing officer, Scott Johnson, said that m.Net would work seamlessly with Yahoo!7 as part of its sales and marketing team to provide mobile solutions support for advertisers. "This continued investment signifies Yahoo!7's confidence in the mobile advertising marketplace, which is set to reach $350 million in Australia alone over the next two years," he claimed.

m.Net will continue to manage the Home & Away WAP site through carrier portals; oversee the existing mobile value added services marketplaces; and provide quality assurance and certification for Yahoo!7 mobile products.

m.Net provides managed advertising, content and development services over mobile networks for major media organisations and telecommunications carriers and their advertising clients. The company claims that its proprietary mobile marketing platform enables clients to exploit mobile opportunities either directly or via fully managed solutions.

It also provides services for competitions and advertising promotions to  TV programmes including 7's 'Dancing with the Stars' and 'It Takes Two', and provides infrastructure, content and market research for Telstra's Caller Tones ringback service.

m.Net was established in 2001 as a consortium of 14 industry and academic organisations with funding from the Building on IT Strengths program of the Department of Communications, Information Technology and the Arts and with support from the South Australian Government. Its founding members were: Cisco Systems Australia, Motorola Australia, Chimo, Medical Communications Associates, Agile, AirNet, Telstra, Adelaide University, Flinders University, University of South Australia and the Corporation of the City of Adelaide. Its original purpose was to develop applications for future 3G networks.

Today it describes itself as an independent company with a diverse range of shareholders including Yahoo!7, Alcatel Australia, Austereo and Telstra.{moscomment}
