Yahoo Messenger vulnerable, says McAfee E-mail

Security researchers at McAfee's Avert Labs have confirmed a new vulnerability in Yahoo Messenger.

According to the Avert blog, the problem can be triggered by a malicious webcam invitation.

Until the software is patched, McAfee recommends users avoid accepting webcam invitations from untrusted sources (always a good idea) and suggests blocking TCP port 5100.

Yahoo is reportedly working on a fix, but as of this writing the affected version (8.1.0.413) is still current.

The flaw was first noted in a Chinese security forum.
